Zombie mommy.

Rydia is now 6 weeks old and I don’t think I can get much lower than this. Yes, I knew that sleep deprivation was part of the deal, but is it supposed to be this bad?

I’ve always suffered from insomnia, so most of my nights I’m up until 3-4 am, then I tend to take a short nap in the afternoon. If I’m lucky, I will get an 8-hour stretch of sleep. And I never sleep in past 10am. Well, on top of insomnia, I haven’t seen more than 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Rydia eats every 3 hours, so that’s about how long I have. She also tends to not sleep until 6am some nights, which means that I’m up for 12-ish hours.

Now because of the lack of sleep, my body itself is just breaking down.

  1. I lost 4 pounds in a month[1. That’s rare for me; I’d be lucky if I lost ounces in a month. Luckily this means that I’m back to my pre-pregnancy weight].
  2. I’m getting more migraines.
  3. I broke into hives a few nights ago and they just went away fully today[2. Cat dander may be the cause, but stress can cause it too].
  4. TMI, but the dreaded period has come back. A little sooner than it should have. Which makes everything 10 times worse. Oh and by the way, menstrual cramps suck ass; I’ve never had to say that before.
  5. I’m exceedingly bitchy. Okay, maybe “bitchy” isn’t the right term, but if you don’t get enough sleep, wouldn’t you be on edge?[3. This can also be an effect of the period]

And yet, I look at my little girl and can’t help but to giggle. Especially since she, herself, gives big old smiles. And that enough makes it all not matter.

The amazing this s no one has actually died from parenting a new born despite the belief that there’s tortures out there less intimidatin.
    YOu are doing fine.
I, yes the glorious Lady Bren, will admit to walking into my bedroom at o’clock one mornig threw the lights on and liea sack of potatoes rammed my once beautiful rose of a child turned demon into a barely awake husband’s arms and screamed if you don’t take this child now I won’t be responsible for her being an only child …. looking back we laugh but I wasn’t trying to be cute or funny at the time.
I guarantee hives and all will be a bit entertaining down the road (ok WAYYYY down the road)

Congrats on getting back to your pre-pregnancy weight! I’m about 10 pounds shy of it but I’ll get there šŸ™‚ Yep I hear you on the three hours of sleep at a time. I think once he slept four and a half hours. Man, I wish he would do that more often! Thankfully on the weekends Adam lets me sleep at least 7 hours while he takes care of Alex. Dude, love the weekends for that reason alone! lol Oh and I got my period last Saturday and STILL have it. How long have you had yours or do you still have it? TMI, but mine is a lot heavier than it used to be which had me worried but I read online that it’s normal for the first period after having a baby. Fun. I hope it ends soon!

You know how you have the lochia stage for like 4-8 weeks? Well, I had it for 5, then went right to the period, which has been going on for about a week, and it’s gotten heavier, along with cramps, which I never experienced in the 17 years I’ve had a period. It’s probably what’s contributing to my fatigue since I was anemic for most of my pregnancy and to be bleeding for 6 weeks straight isn’t doing my body any favors.

The time after my baby was born made me crazy. Like you said, never getting more than 2-3 hours of sleep at a time is brutal! I thought I would not survive. Thank goodness that babies grow up and can sleep longer. I hope your little baby starts sleeping for longer stretches soon soon soon!
